Engineer Mohamed Abdel Malek, the father of the late swimmer Youssef, stated that his family has not received any clear answers regarding the circumstances of his son’s death.
He affirmed that Youssef was transferred to the morgue and his body was subjected to an autopsy following claims from the Swimming Federation that he had been taking performance-enhancing drugs (doping) or was suffering from a pre-existing medical condition—claims which the father completely denied.
During a phone interview on the program Yahdoth fi Masr (Happening in Egypt) on MBC Masr, Abdel Malek explained that responsible authorities initially informed him that the investigation would be concluded quickly and he would be granted a burial permit to receive his son’s body from the hospital.
However, he was later shocked when officials confirmed that the Federation suspected his son of using performance enhancers, which he regarded as an unjust accusation unsupported by any facts.
Abdel Malek added that Youssef had been practicing the sport since the age of six and had achieved continuous athletic success. He pointed out that no official has contacted him yet to inform him of the investigation results or to explain “where his son’s rights lie,” as he put it.
Abdel Malek stressed that he will not give up until the full truth about the cause of his son’s death is known. He emphasized that the shock and the unclear procedures his family has faced only intensify his determination to demand justice for Youssef and uncover the full circumstances of what happened.
