Fourteen students contract mumps in Tenth of Ramadan school

Fourteen students in Ahmed Orabi School for Basic Education in Tenth of Ramadan City have contracted mumps.

Dr. Khaled Fawzy, director of the Preventive Medicine Department in Sharqiya, gave the pupils compulsory leave for 15 days to return only if they bring a certificate from a doctor guaranteeing that they were no longer ill.

He also said that committees of preventive medicine are examining schools and homes to make sure the disease does not spread.

“We have had 62 cases since the beginning of the school year,” he said. “Last year we had 300 cases.”
