George Clooney praises wife after receiving award

American movie star George Clooney, 53, praised his wife effusively after receiving the pretigious Cecil DeMille Award for his artistic career.

“In a town and in an industry where it is so easy to lose touch of who you are and what really matters, she has never been anything but real,” he said.

His wife, highly-acclaimed British lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney, 39, shined as he spoke of her. “It's a humbling thing to find someone you love. Even better if you've been waiting your whole life,” he said. “Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn't be prouder to be your husband.”

Clooney even credited his wife for his fashion. “She chose this Armani suit,” he told the audience.

Previous recipients of the Cecil DeMille Award include Woody Allen, Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster, Robert De Niro and Stephen Spielberg.

Amal is currently representing the Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy, who was arrested in Egypt and still being held after being found guilty of spreading false news and aiding a terrorist organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, in his reporting.

She also worked on a February 2014 report for the International Bar Association, critical of the Egyptian judiciary as it cast doubt on their independence from political influence.
