Holy Family trip program launches in June

Tourism Minister Hesham Zaazou said the ministry will launch a promotional program for the Holy Family trip in June.

The program will include visits to areas in Heliopolis, Maadi and Minya governorate. It will end at the Virgin Mary Monasteries in al-Teir mountain in Assiut. The journey will not include North Sinai because of the security situation there.

There will be coordination with Jordan to take advantage of the Christian sights, which will boost the tourism sector in both countries and will bring back religious tourism to Egypt.

In a press conference, Zaazou said that the ministry is coordinating with the Egyptian church in order to start the promotional program.

Zaazou said that the ministry is making arrangements for ferries and flights ahead of Pope Francis's visit to Jordan, which Egypt will take advantage of  by hosting the escorting delegations at Taba's hotels.

In addition, Egypt hopes to attract Russian tourists heading to Jordan to follow the pope's visit.

"There will be direct flights between Hurghada and Amman to promote tourism between the two countries," Zaazou said. "There will also be a campaign to promote Arab tourism that will be launched in May during the Dubai forum."

Regarding travel bans issued by more than 16 countries in February including Germany, Zaazou said that he hopes the ban would be lifted before the end of summer and that European tourism would return this coming winter.

"The ministry will also work on promoting therapeutic tourism by taking advantage of major hospitals and excellent doctors in order to boost medical tourism in Egypt," Zaazou added.
