ICAO removes Sinai from warnings

The International Civil Aviation Organization of the United Nations (ICAO) headquartered in Montreal, Canada, has removed Egypt's name from the list of areas of conflict, canceling safety warnings for flights over the Sinai Peninsula.

Removing Egypt from the list of countries of conflict zones means the abolition of warnings to civilian pilots published by Germany and the UK against Egypt on the ICAO website, Moataz Zahran, Egypt's ambassador to Canada, told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Tuesday.

Thanks to cooperation between Egypt and the African Group within the organization and the support of friendly countries, Egypt was lifted from the list, the ambassador added.

Zahran praised the efforts of Egypt's delegate to the ICAO, Major General Hussein Ahmed Khedr, stressing that the decision was crucial to Egypt in this stage amid its war against terrorism.

Zahran pointed out that Egypt was on the ICAO list of conflict zones due to Germany and the UK's warnings against civilian flights over the Sinai Peninsula, including Sharm el-Sheikh.
