Illicit Gains Authority investigates lands of former Al-Ahram executives

The Illicit Gains Authority plans to inventory the properties two former Al-Ahram newspaper executives after investigations suggested the men had acquired land, villas and chalets illegally.

The authority ordered an inventory of former CEO and Editor-in-Chief Ibrahim Nafie’s land along the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, as well as that of former Advertising Director Hassan Hamdy.

A committee including the General Authority for Rehabilitation and Agricultural Development Projects is tasked with inspecting the lands.

Hamdy has already been summoned for interrogation and was confronted with investigation results alleging he profited illegally through his work at Ahram Advertising Agency. His financial disclosure report does not specifically show the sources of his wealth.

Nafie has not been questioned because he is abroad, but his name has been placed on a travel watch list.

In October the authority issued an arrest warrant for Nafie to interrogate him over charges of exploiting his position. He has also previously been named in investigations regarding Al-Ahram’s gift giving to former regime officials.
