The Interior Ministry pardoned 477 prisoners on Thursday as part of an ongoing program of releases connected with the annual celebration of the 1952 revolution on 23 July.

The prisoners were released from a number of prisons, and had all served at least half of their sentences with good behavior and had fulfilled all their financial obligations.

The ministry issued a statement saying that the number of prisoners released this year on the anniversary of 23 July revolution totalled 1995 prisoners.

The ministry also said that it was reviewing the files of further inmates to determine whether any more would be granted pardons.
