Judges to propose constitutional article on retirement age

The Judges Club will propose an article for the new constitution stating that judges should retire at the age of 70, so that no future regime can pressure judges on this issue, Sameh al-Sorougy, member of the club's board, told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The club will also propose a total separation between judicial and executive powers and the modification of the Justice Ministry’s specialization in technical issues. Guarantees on implementing court rulings will also be included in the proposals, according to Sorougy.

The Judge Club, presided by Ahmed al-Zend, will hold on Wednesday a meeting regarding other potential constitutional amendments on judicial power law and other issues.
