Metro users between 2 million and 2.5 million a day: official

Between 2 million and 2.5 million passengers use the metro per day, Essam Waly, head of the National Authority for Tunnels, said, adding that a permanent place will be installed in stations for artistic and musical events with the aim of adding a cultural theme at metro stations.

Waly added, in exclusive statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm, that during the first half of this year, four stations will be opened on the third line of the metro (from Ataba to Kit Kat station).

For the pricing of the electric train ticket, the government is working on investing in the means of transportation of all categories and setting ticket prices appropriate for all classes so that the government will bear any increase.

Green transport is prevalent around the world, and Egypt is interested in sustainable green transport and has an ambitious plan in this regard, he said.

Egypt plans to connect new urban communities using smart transportation without using surface transportation, and the target is to transport nine to ten million passengers per day to completely solve the problem of congestion, he added.

Abu Qir tram in Alexandria will be converted to a metro to start from Abu Qir to the Misr station. A train project from West Port Said to Abu Qir will be implemented next year, he mentioned.
