Ministry blames botched tree-trimming on lack of worker training

The Environment Ministry has said that poor training is to blame for the botched trimming of trees near the Cabinet building.

Al-Masry Al-Youm detected clumsy tree-trimming efforts on Friday on al-Falaky and Mansour streets near the Cabinet, the Education Ministry and the Military Production Ministry.

Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy sent delegates to verify the newspaper’s reports and confirmed the trees had been badly trimmed. He, however, explained that the law stipulates jail sentences and fines for the unguided cutting, not trimming, of trees.

According to the minister, the ministry conducts periodic checks to preserve rare trees, adding that the latest incident was caused by the lack of training among workers at the local municipality. He stressed that a meeting with the Cairo governorate would discuss training issues for tree-trimmers.
