Naval officer, police captain arrested for breaking into Mansoura store

A police captain, navy first lieutenant, Police Academy student and two other men were ordered detained on Wednesday for four days pending investigations.

The men are accused of breaking into a store in Mansoura on Tuesday evening following a dispute between the store owners and the naval officer, who claimed to be a senior student at the Naval Academy.

Investigations by the public prosecution revealed that the naval officer threatened the store owners, who objected to his indecent behavior with a woman inside a car parked outside their store.

Accompanied by the Police Academy student and the four other men — only two of whom have been detained — wielding bladed weapons and a gun, the officer broke into the store and attacked its owners. After coming to an agreement with the student and naval officer, a police captain reportedly agreed to arrest the owners.

However, dozens of young people and political activists showed up and trapped the captain, naval officer, student and two of the unidentified men at the shop, and seized two police vehicles from the suspects. The armed forces then arrived and arrested the suspects.
