NGO raises anti-harassment awareness with subway comics

Beneath Cairo’s busy Ramses Square, at al-Shohadaa subway station, people waiting on the platforms are now being met with comics strips stuck on the walls, explaining the psychological consequences sustained by sexual harassment victims.

The comic strips are part of a campaign launched on Friday by Imprint Movement (Basma), a recently formed NGO.  The images and stories are designed to raise awareness about sexual harassment while using public transportation.

“This lady could be anyone important to you; sexual harassment does not affect her alone, but all of us,” read a sentence at the end of a short story.

A United Nations report in 2013 said that 99 percent of Egyptian women have experienced a form of sexual harassment.
