PM discuss development of the pyramids area

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb is holding an urgent Cabinet meeting on Sunday with the ministers of tourism, antiquities, information, and local development, as well as the governors and security directors of Cairo and Giza to come up with a plan to develop the pyramids area within a few weeks.

The plan is to maintain the roads leading to the area, close illegal entrances to it, allocate specific places and paths for camel rides and vendors, erect public baths and set a unified price for all services to protect tourists.

“Tourism is passing through difficult times as a result of this delicate phase,” he said. “We take into account social and cultural aspects in promoting our archaeological sites.”

“Tourist destinations in Egypt are completely safe,” he said, denying any tourists have been harassed in the pyramids area.
