The police and the preventive medicine department in Daqahlia discovered a storeroom that included 25 tons of hazardous medical waste on a poultry farm in the village of Talbana in Mansoura, Tuesday.
The police conducted investigations in coordination with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Authority which revealed that the poultry farm had been rented and was being used to collect and sort medical and hospital waste in order to recycle and resell the salvageable waste.
Security sources said the police got permission from the public prosecutor to monitor the movements of the farm owner and lessor before raiding the farm, seizing the waste and arresting the farm's guard.
A claim was filed and the prosecution has since taken over the investigation.
