Policeman dies after injured in Saturday clashes

A security officer died Monday after he was shot during weekend violence between police and supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy, Egypt's Interior Ministry said.

 

Major Sherif al-Seba'y, a member of Central Security Forces, died after he sustained bullet wounds to the head during violence on Nasr Road in eastern Cairo.

 

Seba’y was shot in the head while performing his duty ending clashes that erupted between protesters from Rabea al-Adaweya and local residents on Saturday, a ministry statement said on Monday.

Health Minister Maha al-Rabat said on Sunday that 80 people died in Saturday's clashes, while 299 others were injured.
