Salafi MP calls for reinstatement of emergency law

Major General Adel Afify, a Shura Council member and founder of the Salafi C, called on President Mohamed Morsy to reinstate Emergency Law on Wednesday. He also asked that the president create a "revolutionary court" to try members of the former administration.

In a statement Afify posted on Facebook, he said, “We all knew what would happened last Friday. There were assaults against the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in Moqattam. Mosques were besieged and worshippers were intimidated.

“We followed up on attempts to burn the Ettehadiya Presidential Palace and frequent acts of thuggery. All of it was planned by leaders of treasonous groups and enemies of Islamist factions,” he said, adding that the vandals were assisted by media that falsely blamed the violence on unnamed thugs.

“Article 148 of the Constitution allows president to declare a state of emergency after consulting the government. The declaration should be reviewed by the House of Representatives within the following seven days,” Afify said.

He also said citizens should back the president and ruling party.
