SCAF reiterates impartiality toward presidential candidates

The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces on Tuesday affirmed that it does not favor either candidate in next week’s presidential election runoff between Mohamed Morsy, the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate, and Ahmed Shafiq, former President Mubarak’s last prime minister.

In a message posted on the SCAF’s Facebook page, the council called on the next president to achieve the goals and aspirations of the people, regardless of his political orientation, or else face their rage.

“May whoever obtains the majority of votes win,” the message said, adding that the winner must keep the promises he made during his campaign and lead the people toward a bright future that is commensurate with the status of Egypt, “the mother of the world.”

“We will ensure the integrity of the election and deal firmly with any violations, and we warn those who might attempt to test us that they will be faced with our determination to achieve the will of the people,” the message said.

“To our great people, we say that together we achieved a victory in October 1973 that shook the world, and that once again we will prove to the whole world what Egyptians can do. Go to the ballot boxes to safeguard the freedom you have gained from the great revolution,” the message said.

“Long live Egypt, its great people and its armed forces,” the message concluded.
