Second phase election results contested

Clashes have erupted between supporters of different candidates in the second phase of the parliamentary elections. Some staged demonstrations before polling stations and claimed the elections were rigged

Some candidates challenged the results in court.

Supporters of the Reform and Development Party candidate Mohamed al-Dessouky attacked security personnel and judges supervising the ballots.

In Sharqiya, former Solidarity Minister Ali al-Meselhy joined the Wafd Party to compete against Mohamed Fayad, a Muslim Brotherhood Freedom and Justice Party candidate, in the runoffs.

In Qena, the Al-Ahrar Party challenged the results in court, while in Sohag, three people were seriously injured during a victory celebration.
