Nayef Abu Qebal, the government-appointed chief of the Swarka Tribe in Arish, Sinai, died Saturday after anonymous gunmen attacked him when he was in a salon for hair cut.
The perpetrators escaped and a claim was filed at the police station. Security authorities said they were intensifying efforts to catch the fugitives.
A security source in Arish told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the Abu Qebal was transferred to Arish Public Hospital but he died of his wounds a few minutes after his arrival.
Medical sources said that Qebal had sustained severe injuries to his head.
