Sisi meets Islamist delegates for talks

Army chief and Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Islamist delegates for talks on the political crisis in Egypt, according to a statement by the armed forces.

During the meeting, Sisi said that there are still opportunities to resolve the crisis, on the condition that the roadmap – formed in the wake of "the glorious 30 June revolution" – dictates the direction of transition, army spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed Ali posted on his official Facebook page on Saturday.

Supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsy meanwhile continue sit-ins demanding his reinstatement.

Authorities have asked protesters to leave.

Sisi stressed that the interim President Adly Mansour and the Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy are in fact running the country, while the army appreciates efforts made by all parties to end the crisis.

Sisi also called on all political groups in Eypt to remain committed to "renounce violence, and not to disrupt state facilities or sabotage public institutions, or damage the interests of citizens,” according to the army spokesperson.
