Tamarod members in Beni Suef resign to support Sisi

Twelve members of the Tamarod Movement in Beni Suef tendered their resignation on Sunday following splits over supporting Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in the presidential elections.

They issued a statement saying that the movement is unable to unite behind a single candidate, which would impede its ability to work on the ground.

The statement also claimed that certain members seek control of the movement for personal gains.

“The movement is finished and no one has the right to speak on its behalf,” the statement said. “We have resigned because we support Sisi.”

The movement, which led protests that prompted the army to depose President Mohamed Morsy in 2013, suffered discord among its members
yesterday when some of them announced their support for Hamdeen Sabbahi in the elections.
