Upper Egypt villagers block railroad to demand water delivery

Hundreds of residents of a village in southern Luxor Governorate blocked railroad tracks on Friday morning, halting train traffic through the area.

The residents blocked the tracks to demand drinking water be delivered to their village.

They gathered on the Cairo-Aswan track, head of Egyptian National Railways Hany Hegab said in a statement, disrupting the movement of trains heading for both Upper and Lower Egypt.

Hegab called on citizens not to block railroads, especially during Eid al-Adha, as other travelers will suffer as a result.

He also added that the blockage will cause losses for the railway authority.
