Vice president invites revolutionary forces to meeting

A number of revolutionary groups said they received an invitation from Vice President Mahmoud Mekky for a meeting Monday at the presidential palace to discuss a string of outstanding political issues.

Essam al-Sharif, coordinator for the Free Front for Peaceful Change, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that issues on the agenda include positions on the Constituent Assembly, legal measures in response to the clashes in Tahrir Square on 12 October, and Egypt’s stance towards Israel in light of a friendly letter from Egypt to Israeli President Shimon Peres.

Sharif said other participants in the meeting include representatives from Constitution Party, the Popular Socialist Alliance Party, the Free Egyptians Party, the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, the Popular Current, and Youth for Justice and Freedom.

Attendees said in a statement that they will hold a press conference on Tuesday to discuss details of the meeting.

The statement said the groups will suggest discussions on other issues, including the doctors’ strike, security responses to protests and recent cases involving blasphemy charges.
