Wafd Party accuses pro-Morsy activist of storming its headquarters

The liberal Wafd Party said it is considering legal action against Abdel Rahman Ezz, an Islamist activist, accusing him of participating in an attack on the party headquarters in December, Al-Wafd newspaper’s website reported.

Wafd Party lawyer Wael Abdel Fattah said he filed a complaint with Dokki district prosecutors Sunday against Ezz, accusing him of attacking the party headquarters.

Abdel Fattah said he attached to the complaint a CD that allegedly shows Ezz, a supporter of President Mohamed Morsy, storming into the premises with supporters of Salafi Sheikh Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, also called Hazemoun.

Ezz has been detained pending investigation on charges related to fighting with another political activist in a hotel during a ceremony for Al-Husseini Abu Deif, a journalist who was killed during clashes at the presidential palace in December.

Many secular and liberal activists accuse the Islamist activist of supporting the attack against secular groups’ sit-in in front of the presidential palace, which led to the clashes.

The activists say this led to the death and torture of several people. Social network users have circulated tweets Ezz allegedly posted in December that said he was heading with others to the presidential palace sit-in and would use force to disperse it.

Later in December, Ezz, along with other Hazemoun movement members, were accused of attacking the Wafd Party headquarters using live bullets, birdshot and sticks.

But Ezz himself experienced a physical attack in January, when unknown assailants beat him while he was visiting an activist who was shot in the head in Tahrir Square.
