Wafd Party members resign from local councils

Some 250 members of the opposition Wafd Party have tendered their resignations from the local councils.

“We asked the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to dissolve the local councils because they are corrupt,” said Ali al-Selmy, prime minister of the Wafd Party-lead shadow government.

“There are 52,000 members in the local councils, all from the former ruling party,” he added. “Representation of the opposition in those councils was not more than one percent.”
