Washington says Burkina Faso different from Egypt

Washington said Monday that the ouster of Egypt's former elected president Mohamed Morsy’s by former defense minister and incumbent President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in 2013 is a different case if compared to the recent ouster of Burkina Faso's president Blaise Compaore.

Compaore resigned as protests flared Friday over his attempts to induce constitutional changes that would extend his 27-year rule. The army named General Isaac Zida as interim leader, vowing to run a transition to a civilian rule.

“It’s a different scenario for many reasons, including the fact that the president left and there’s a political vacuum left, and it wasn’t initiated in the same way that the events in Egypt were, even though, as you know, we have implemented legally a range of steps in Egypt over the course of the last year,” said Jen Psaki, State Department spokesperson.
