Interior Ministry: Air police patrols to start this month

The Interior Ministry said on a post to its Facebook page that the first air police patrols will be seen in Egypt's skies before 25 January.

Former Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin had announced in late December the creation of a new air police force.

Ashraf Galal, head of the ministry’s air police department, had previously told Al-Masry Al-Youm that using aviation was important to enable police to patrol and access areas that land vehicles are unable to reach.

He added that the new patrols will help combat drug dealing, border smuggling and agricultural encroachment, as well as secure businesses, tourist groups, football matches, state properties and bodies of water.
