The Cairo Appeals Court has set 19 August as the date for the trial of former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons on charges of using state funds to renovate private properties.
Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, stand accused of appropriating public money allocated for presidential palaces to renovate their own villas.
Investigations by the Supreme State Security Prosecution over the past six months have found that the defendants used state funds to develop real estate in Heliopolis, Qattamiya Heights, Sharm el-Sheikh, Marina and other locations between 2002 and 2011.
The prosecution heard the testimonies of more than 70 contractors who carried out the work. Judicial officials found the contractors were paid through the state budget.
The prosecution also heard the testimonies of the presidency's engineers and private secretaries who confirmed that those works were carried out between 2002 and 2011.
A committee of members from the Central Auditing Organisation and Ain Shams Faculty of Engineering also verified the claims.
Investigations have also shown that the ex-president gave instructions to pay costs for construction from the state budget.
The defendants were detained pending investigations before being referred for criminal trial in June.
