About 25 supporters of former President Hosni Mubarak protested in front of Tora Prison Saturday to honor the “commander of the air strike,” as they described him.

The demonstration comes at the same time as the 39th anniversary of the 6 October War between Egypt and Israel, which resulted in Egypt later regaining Sinai. Mubarak took part in the war as the commander of the Air Force.

Protesters expressed their rejection of what they called “the deliberate official and media marginalization” of the former president on the anniversary of the war, saying that they decided to celebrate near Mubarak in his honor.

Mubarak is currently in Tora Prison after being sentenced to life in prison for failing to stop the killing of protesters during the events if the 25 January revolution. A court is still considering other cases against him.

Protesters chanted, “What did Mubarak do? 6 October is his witness,” while demanding that authorities grant a health amnesty for the former president.
