The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) opposition group’s authoritative Guidance Office on Wednesday formally expelled  Magdi Ashour, the only group member to have won a seat in this year's recently concluded parliamentary polls.

On its official website, the MB explained that the move was based on the group’s earlier decision to boycott 5 December parliamentary run-offs due to widespread reports of electoral fraud that had accompanied the first round of voting on 28 November.

Following Ashour's electoral victory, the group issued a statement pointing out that Ashour, who failed to abide by the boycott decision, did not represent the MB in parliament.
