Adly defense team videos apparently show attacks on police during revolution

Defense lawyers for Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six of his top security aides screened videos in court Tuesday that apparently show protesters attacking police forces in and around Tahrir Square during the 25 January uprising.

The Cairo Criminal Court resumed the hearing Tuesday for Adly and his assistants, who are accused of involvement in killing protesters early last year, then adjourned to Thursday.

Some of the videos apparently show demonstrators attacking police holding shields and barriers to block off Tahrir, as well as protesters hurling stones and Molotov cocktails at security forces only holding shields and sticks, with no other kinds of weapons.

One video apparently shows security officer Ahmed Aziz Farag being killed on 25 January. Defense lawyer Essam al-Battawy said Farag died of a skull fracture.

Battawy also explained protest leaders' plans to rally demonstrators, block the roads for Central Security vehicles and confront security methods used to disperse protests.
