Egyptian diplomat wins membership to UN child rights committee

Assistant Foreign Minister Gehad Madi has won membership to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in an election held on Tuesday in New York, according to ministry spokesperson Hossam Zaki.

Madi received the largest number of votes from among 20 competitors.

Zaki on Wednesday said Madi's victory reflects the pioneering role played by Egypt in the field of child rights, adding that it shows the international community's appreciation for Egypt's efforts at the local level in this regard.

The CRC is responsible for following up on the implementation of international treaties on child rights.
