Egyptian police officer charged with stealing weapons

Prosecutors in the Upper Egyptian city of Sohag this week ordered the detention of a police officer for 15 days pending investigation on charges that he had stolen ten pistols from local police station.

Prosecutors also ordered the detention of a local car dealer, a mechanic and a merchant on suspicions that they had kept the stolen pistols in their possession and had sold them to a third party.

They also ordered the arrest of the person believed to have purchased the pistols.

The suspects have all confessed to the charges, while the police officer claims to still have four of the stolen pistols in his possession.
