Ex-first lady released on bail

An Egyptian judicial agency has ordered a bailed release for Egypt's former first lady, Suzanne Mubarak, one day after she had vowed to relinquish assets she was accused of obtaining illegally, the state TV announced.

On Friday, the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) detained Suzanne Mubarak for 15 days pending investigations over charges of abuse of power and illegal accumulation of wealth.

But she suffered angina after hearing the news and was taken to an intensive care unit at a Sharm el-Sheikh hospital in South Sinai.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian state news agency MENA quoted a South Sinai notary official as saying that he obtained Suzanne Mubarak's signature for putting her assets at IGA's disposal.

"She signed on the proxy and seemed exhausted. My task took about ten minutes," he told MENA.

The authorization empowers the IGA to withdraw Suzanne Mubarak’s accounts, deposited in two banks, and sell a villa she owns in Heliopolis.
