Mubarak sons’ detention extended for 15 days

Attorney General Abdel Magid Mahmoud has extended the detention of Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, the sons of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, for a further 15 days pending investigation into charges of illegal accumulation of wealth.

On the attorney general’s official Facebook page, Mahmoud’s spokesman said that a committee of prosecutors visited Tora prison on Monday afternoon to continue investigations into the Mubarak sons’ assets, which include land and real estate, as well as their involvement in Egypt's debt payment programs.

The committee will also investigate issues related to commissions they received from gas exports to Israel, in addition to forced partnerships in some contracts with multi-national companies working in Egypt.
