Parliament to discuss corruption in state institutions

Parliament will discuss on Sunday nine requests for information regarding squandering public funds and corruption in ministries and other state institutions.

MP Mohamed Emara submitted a request for information on the Foreign Ministry squandering public funds by disbursing bonuses without filing supporting documents, while other information requests dealt with wastefulness by Egypt Mail, the Ministry of Religious Endowments, and the Education Development Fund, as well as the weak economic activity of the Suez Canal Authority.

Emara also submitted a request for information about the failure of the government to revoke Egyptian nationality from citizens who have obtained Israeli citizenship, which he says has negatively impacted national security. He referred to Law No. 26 of 1975 that gives the government the right to revoke citizenship.

Parliament is also discussing a request for information by MP Gamal Metwali on US$145 million that former President Mubarak and his wife had transferred from the Bank of Alexandria.
