Port Said football trial adjourned to 25 August

The Port Said Criminal Court on Monday decided to adjourn the Port Said football violence trial to 25 August to hear the prosecution and civil claimants' arguments.

The court would also inspect the Port Said Stadium on 18 July.

Seventy-four people were killed and hundreds were injured when fans of Port Said's home team, Masry, stormed the pitch following a victory over Cairo-based Ahly on 1 February.

Audio and video recordings screened during Monday’s session showed that Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said that the director of security in Port Said was responsible for the violence, which is why he was transferred to another job. The judge decided to adjourn and angrily took off his sash when he saw a lawyer playing with his iPad.
