Tagammu slams issuing of Constitutional Declaration without dialogue

The leftist Tagammu Party has criticized the issuing of the interim Constitutional Declaration without first holding a national dialogue with all political parties and movements.

In a statement on Monday, the party renewed its rejection of the 1971 Constitution, calling for its cancellation and the election of a committee to draft a new and more democratic constitution, which would act as the basis for the election of both parliament and a new president.

The party also denounced  the draft law criminalizing protests and strikes, declaring it inconsistent with basic human freedoms.

The party further asked the Supreme Council of Armed Forces to bring an end to the actions of extremist religious groups that have been intimidating citizens, making false accusations and creating discord. Such groups are harming the 25 January revolution, tarnishing Egypt’s image and threatening its future, it said.
