The Interior Ministry is preparing to launch a satellite channel to communicate with citizens, the interior minister said Sunday.

“It has no commercial purpose,” Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin said. “It would provide services and raise awareness about citizens’ rights.”

Police have been accused of committing human rights violations and systematically practicing torture. Protesters during the 25 January revolution targeted police stations in Cairo and other governorates, but never stormed the Interior Ministry in downtown Cairo.
