50 vessels pass through Suez Canal

Fifty vessels with loads estimated at a total of 2.7 million tons crossed both ways through the Suez Canal on Tuesday, the canal authority said.

The authority said in a statement that 27 ships passed coming from the north, with loads estimated at 1.5 million tons, and 23 ships passed from the south, with loads estimated at 1.3 million tons.

The oil tanker Kokkari — the largest ship coming from the north — came through from the Bahamas with a load of 160,000 tons, heading to Singapore, the statement said.  

The Liberian oil tanker Atlantas, heading to Alexandria, was the largest ship coming from the south with an estimated weight of 163,000 tons.
