Foreign Minister: Egypt committed to road map

Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy said that the Egyptian government is committed to the roadmap to build the foundations of a true democracy and integrate all political forces without exclusion or discrimination.

Fahmy said Arab countries are also helping Egypt overcome the current critical stage.

At a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, Fahmy reiterated Egypt’s support of the Palestinian negotiations for an independent state on the borders of June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

A Foreign Ministry statement said on Thursday that Fahmy discussed the importance of a political solution for the Syrian crisis at the meeting of the Deauville Partnership foreign ministers to provide economic support for Arab Spring countries.

The meeting was chaired by British Foreign Secretary William Hague, with a number of European countries, Japan, the European Union, Jordan, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Tunisia and Libya.
