Nasr Road re-opened after pro-Morsy demo

Nasr Road has been re-opened to traffic after being blocked by a demonstration by university students on Saturday morning.

Students were protesting in favour of the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist President Mohamed Morsy.

Male and female students from Al-Azhar University demonstrated on the first day of school, blocking the road. Disputes between protesters and motorists trying to pass broke out.

Students wore T-shirts with the four-fingered Rabaa symbol, a reference to the pro-Morsy sit-in at nearby Rabaa al-Adaweya which was violently dispersed by security forces on 14 August.

They chanted slogans denouncing Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb.

Azhar University had earlier decided to postpone the beginning of the school year for a second time, starting on 19 October instead of 5 October, because of the security situation in Cairo and Egypt.
